Redland Shire Community Survey

NFS National Field Services, sponsored by CARP Inc, conducted a survey amongst 400 Redland Shire residents. The survey shows that, if given a real choice, Redland Shire residents are prepared to make clear choices about their future. It tells us too, that Redlanders are like-minded, for the preferences and choices indicated by Shire residents as a whole are reflected consistently.

Survey results summary are as follows:

Redland Shire Residents …

  1. Believe that there are negative consequences to continuing population growth, and recognise that there are limits.
  2. Prefer to retain the Shire’s semi-rural and rural lands than to develop these lands to create more local jobs.
  3. Prefer improved public transport to commercial and industrial areas outside the Shire, over industrial development of the Redlands’ wildlife habitats and rural lands.
  4. Are not prepared to accept a decline in koala numbers in order to accommodate more people in the Shire.
  5. Support limits on the number of dwellings in order to preserve the Shire’s village atmosphere, the bush, the Bay and the semi-rural landscapes.
  6. Expect Redland Shire Council to conduct public consultation in all important Town Planning decisions and development applications.
  7. Do not support expansion of the urban footprint.
  8. Would limit population growth in the Shire if given the choice.
